Refugee Assistance

The Refugee Assistance Program connects refugees in need of protection to sponsors willing to offer that protection through the Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program.  MCC facilitates the matching of refugees to sponsor groups who provide the physical, emotional and social support needed as they settle in their new community in Saskatchewan.  MCC encourages groups to get involved with refugees and offer hope to those who have been displaced from their homes because of war, conflict and human rights abuse.

Sponsorship includes:

  • Meeting the refugee(s) at the airport
  • Providing orientation to the community
  • Assuring enrolment in the appropriate language and education programs
  • Assuring basic needs such as housing, shelter and food are provided for a period of 1 year after arrival
  • Providing the financial resources necessary
  • Encouraging and assisting the refugee(s) to become self-sufficient as quickly as possible.

Peace, Justice and Dignity for All People; Harmony with God's Creation.

The opportunities for demonstrating God’s love and creating just relationships are all around us. In Saskatchewan, our work for peace and justice shares themes with much of our international work – seeking justice alongside indigenous communities, welcoming people made refugees by violence, restoring justice within communities harmed by crime, encouraging youth and young adults to become engaged global citizens, building peacemaking skills for all.
